The Fourteen Infallibles are fourteen figures in Islam which are deemed by Twelver Shiites to be infallible and immune from any sins and mistakes, including the Holy Prophet (s), and thirteen of his Ahl al-Bayt (a), that is, his daughter, Lady Fatima al-Zahra (a) and the twelve Shiite Imams (a).

Muhammad b. ‘Abd Allah, also known as Rasul Allah and Abu l-Qasim, is revered as the Prophet of Islam. He was born on the 12th or 17th of Rabi’ I, ‘Am al-Fil, around May 6 or 11, 570, in Mecca. He passed away on Safar 28, 11, or May 28, 632, in Medina. His burial place is in Medina. 

Amir al-Mu’minin, also known as Abu l-Hasan and Abu Turab, is recognized as the first Imam of Shiites. He was born on Rajab 13, 23 BH, corresponding to October 1, 600, in Mecca (Ka’ba). His demise occurred on Ramadan 21, 40, or January 28, 661, in Kufa, where he was struck by Ibn Muljam al-Muradi’s sword. He is buried in Najaf.

Al-Zahra, also known as al-Siddiqa and al-Batul, holds the titles of Umm Abiha and Umm al-A’imma, signifying her role as the Mother of Imams. She was born on Jumada II 20, 8 BH, corresponding to March 30, 615, in Mecca. Her passing occurred on Jumada II 3, 11, or August 26, 632, in Medina. She sustained injuries when she resisted pledging her allegiance to Abu Bakr’s caliphate under duress. Her place of burial is unknown.

Al-Hasan ibn Ali, also known as al-Mujtaba and Abu Muhammad, is revered as the second Imam of Shiites. He was born on Ramadan 15, 3, corresponding to March 1, 625, in Medina. His demise occurred on Safar 28, 50, or March 27, 670, also in Medina. He was poisoned by his wife, Ja’da bint al-Ash’ath ibn Qays, reportedly motivated by Mu’awiyya. He is buried in Medina, specifically in al-Baqi’

Al-Husayn ibn Ali, known as Sayyid al-Shuhada and Abu ‘Abd Allah, is revered as the third Imam of Shiites. He was born on Sha’ban 3, 4, corresponding to January 8, 626, in Medina. His martyrdom occurred on Muharram 10, 61, or October 10, 680, in Karbala. He was martyred together with his companions in a battle with the army of Yazid ibn Mu’awiyya. He is buried in Karbala.

Ali ibn al-Husayn, known as Al-Sajjad, Zayn al-‘Abidin, and Abu l-Hasan, is revered as the fourth Imam of Shiites. He was born on Sha’ban 5, 38, corresponding to January 6, 659, in Medina. His martyrdom occurred on Muharram 25, 95, or October 21, 713, in Medina. He was poisoned by the order of Walid ibn ‘Abd al-Malik and is buried in Medina (al-Baqi’).

Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, known as Baqir al-‘Ulum and Abu Ja’far, is honored as the fifth Imam of Shiites. He was born on Rajab 1, 57, corresponding to May 10, 677, in Medina. His martyrdom occurred on Dhu l-Hijja 7, 114, or January 28, 733, in Medina. He was poisoned by the order of Hisham ibn ‘Abd al-Malik and is buried in Medina (al-Baqi’).

Ja’far ibn Muhammad, known as Al-Sadiq and Abu ‘Abd Allah, is revered as the sixth Imam of Shiites. He was born on Rabi’ I 17, 83, which corresponds to April 20, 702, in Medina. His martyrdom occurred on Shawwal 25, 148, or December 14, 765, in Medina. He was poisoned by the order of al-Mansur and is buried in Medina (al-Baqi’).

Musa ibn Ja’far, also known as Al-Kazim and Abu l-Hasan, is honored as the seventh Imam of Shiites. He was born on Safar 7, 128, which corresponds to November 8, 745, in Medina. His martyrdom occurred on Rajab 25, 183, or September 1, 799, in Kadhimiya. He was poisoned by the order of Harun al-Rashid and is buried in Kadhimiya.

Ali ibn Musa, known as Al-Rida and Abu l-Hasan, is revered as the eighth Imam of Shiites. He was born on Dhu l-Qa’da 11, 148, corresponding to December 29, 765, in Medina. His passing occurred on Safar 29, 203, or September 5, 818, in Tus, Mashhad. He was poisoned by the order of al-Ma’mun and is buried in Mashhad.

Muhammad ibn Ali, known as Al-Taqi, Al-Jawad, and Abu Ja’far, is revered as the ninth Imam of Shiites. He was born on Rajab 10, 195, which corresponds to April 8, 811, in Medina. His passing occurred on Dhu l-Qa’da 29, 220, or November 24, 835, in Kadhimiya. He was poisoned by al-Mu’tasim, instigated by his wife, Umm al-Fadl, and is buried in Kadhimiya.

Ali ibn Muhammad, known as Al-Hadi, Al-Naqi, and Abu l-Hasan, is revered as the tenth Imam of Shiites. He was born on Dhu l-Hijja 15, 212, which corresponds to March 6, 828, in Medina. His passing occurred on Rajab 3, 254, or June 28, 868, in Samarra. He was poisoned by the order of al-Mu’tazz and is buried in Samarra.

Al-Hasan ibn Ali, also known as Al-Zaki, Al-‘Askari, and Abu Muhammad, is recognized as the eleventh Imam of Shiites. He was born on Rabi’ II 8, 232, equivalent to December 2, 846, in Medina. His passing occurred on Rabi’ I 8, 260, or January 1, 874, in Samarra. He was poisoned by the order of al-Mu’tamid and is buried in Samarra.

Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, also known as al-Qa’im and Abu l-Qasim, is revered as the Twelfth Imam of Shiites. He was born on Sha’ban 15, 255, which corresponds to July 29, 869, in Samarra. According to Shia belief, he is alive but hidden from people, awaiting the right time to reappear.
